Did you know that the first office staplers could only staple one staple at a time? It was indeed necessary to recharge the device for each new stapling. So was this really an evolution from the simple paper clips, invented only a few years earlier?
Whatever the answer to this question, models quickly evolved and, by the end of the 19th century, it was possible to load several staples… but only one at a time! The staples were not welded together and had to be placed individually in the device. It was not until the 1920s that the first staple bars as we know them today appeared. We invite you to discover the eventful history of the stapler on the Early Office Museum website.
The design of the Ellepi stapler, now widely adopted by other manufacturers, was a great novelty at the time of its creation in the 1980s. It allowed a complete grip of the object and a much better ergonomics than its competitors.
